HOW TO READ AND UNDERSTAND SHEET MUSIC


IT IS IMPERATIVE FOR ONE TO READ MUSIC WELL

YES. We can play music without sheet music; however, When one wants to play in a band or in any other group reading music is essential - even though they may have memorized the songs .

If one looks at a symphony with a chorus and percussion section, one will occasionally see the chorus and drums reading from music sheet - although it is not always obvious.


THERE ARE TWO BASIC KINDS OF SHEET MUSIC:


1. Sheet music is Usually only for a single instrument like a clarinet or piano.
2. A Score usually contains sheet music for all the instruments in a group and is sometimes bound in book form.

There are three kinds of basic formats for sheet music.

1. The Treble Clef and variations
2. The Bass Clef and variations
3. The Grand Clef which combines the Treble and Bass clefs. It is usually used with a piano or keyboard.
